No matter how well you plan, how reliable your car is or how safe you drive, there is always a chance that you will wind up stranded on the side of the road on your next road trip. And you never know when an emergency can happen. There are just so many factors and things you have no control over. But what you do have control over is what you pack in your vehicle on your road trip, so make sure you have an emergency kit. An emergency kit can be purchased at any auto parts store or online, but it’s just as easy to create your own. In fact, when you create your own, you know that you have everything you need in the event of a breakdown or other emergency. Groovy Automotive, your auto service in Austin, offers you a great list of things you should pack in your emergency kit.
Flares Flares can be used to alert oncoming traffic to your presence on the side of the road and they can also be used as a distress call in the event of an emergency. Flashlight Actually, it is quite acceptable to have multiple flashlights in your car emergency kit. There are many types of flashlights out there, but basically two types of light: Incandescent and LED. Without going into too much detail, LED flashlights are recommended because they last longer than incandescent lights so they provide dependable lighting. Jumper Cables One of the best things you can have in your car emergency kit is a good set of jumper cables. We can tell you, this isn't the time to go cheap. Like your grandfather used to say, “Buy cheap, buy twice.” OK, maybe you didn’t hear that come from your grandfather's mouth, but it is still true, you don’t want a set of jumper cables that are going to fail you. Tool Kit You never want to be stuck on the side of the road with a minor problem thinking to yourself that you wished you had a screwdriver. It’s not necessary to have the 1,200-piece tool set from Kmart weighing down your car, a simple kit with a few tools will be sufficient. Make sure you have a few sockets, screwdrivers and tape. Fire Extinguisher The fire extinguisher is quite often the lost element in many car emergency kits. And it’s a shame for sure as nobody wants their vehicle to wind up a crispy mess. Blanket If you break down in some lonely road in the middle of winter and you can’t get cell phone service, you will want that blanket to keep you warm. Food and Water It makes perfect sense to pack a few bottles of water and some protein bars in the event of an emergency. In some cases, the emergency might be whining kids who are hungry and thirsty in the midst of a road trip.
Make sure that you pack an emergency kit and have your car serviced at Groovy Automotive before you head out on that road trip.
